All 12th Eastleigh Sections Have Risk Assessments Signed Off By District For Outdoor Meetings

We are pleased to announce that the outdoor risk assessments for all of our sections, and our hut have now been signed off at district level, meaning that from Monday 14th September, all sections are able to return to face to face meetings.

Due to restrictions imposed, based on numbers, meetings may take a slightly different format than before. If this is the case, the Section Leaders will advise all parents of the situation.

Our leaders are now in the process of completing separate risk assessments to allow us to move activities inside before the winter hits.

All of the currently approved risk assessments have been made available for public review HERE. All future risk assessments will also me placed on the Risk Assessments page once completed

Risk Assessments

Following recent guidance from the UK Scout Association, in response to COVID-19, our leaders are in the process of creating their Risk Assessments to allow each section to Return to Scouting.

Going forwards, there will be a requirement for all future Scouting activities to have a full, written, Risk Assessment available to all parents and young people. This is due to become mandatory as of January 2021

As a way of ensuring we meet this, the 12th Eastleigh Scout Group will be creating full written Risk Assessments for all activities as of now. These are available for all leaders, parents and young people to access on the new Risk Assessments page.

As new Risk Assessments are produced, we will add them to this page.

If you have any questions regarding and Risk Assessment, affecting your young person, please contact your Section Leader

Returning to Face to Face Scouting

Following a Leaders’ meeting (Zoom) on Wednesday evening, I would like to advise all parents that we are hoping that all sections of 12th Eastleigh Scout Group can begin face to face meeting during the week commencing 7th September. This is dependent on agreement of the District team, once all required paperwork is complete, so it is not guaranteed at this time. We will likely be outdoors only to begin with, and definitely in small groups as advised by your section leaders. Please take careful note of the information that will be shared as to how we plan to keep your young people, and our leaders safe. Please join me in thanking all the section leaders for their hard work in keeping some kind of scouting going over the last 6 months, and ensuring that we can begin to move forward towards a new ‘normal’.

Letter to Parents 04/05/2020

Dear Parents of 12th Eastleigh Beavers, Cubs and Scouts,

I hope this mail finds you well in these interesting times?  We have been living in the unprecedented state of lockdown for 6 weeks now, and it is clear that even when the immediate strict rules are relaxed face to face scouting may not begin again for some time.

I need to be honest with you all, our initial instinct was to suspend subscriptions for the duration of the shutdown period, to reflect reduced activity and support families likely to be experiencing financial stress.  Unfortunately however, the Scout Association Headquarters has indicated that the fees that we pay to them (covering safeguarding, insurance, training and other infrastructure) cannot be suspended, and will likely increase very significantly next year.  This is coupled with the fact that, as owners of our own property, maintenance and repair costs continue, and we cannot receive rental income during this period.  Therefore the Committee has had to review the situation.

I am aware that each of the sections of 12th Eastleigh Scout Group has taken a different approach to activity during the lockdown, according to the skills and availability of the leaders involved. So some of your youngsters will be getting much more scouting in a virtual environment than others.  I am also aware that many parents continue to pay full subs, and for this I thank you, and encourage you to continue to do this if you are able.

The Committee has decided to ask all parents not currently paying subs re-instate your monthly subs payments from 1 June 2020.   If you can pay the full membership fees, that would be very helpful, but the minimum that we feel we need is 50% the usual fees ie:
£5.00 per month for one member
£8.50 per month for two members
£12 per month for three members in one family.

As always, if you and your family are experiencing financial hardship, please do mention this in confidence to your section leader and we can come to an agreement.  I do not wish any youngster to miss out on Scouting during lockdown or afterwards if they are keen to continue with us.

Best Wishes

Lyn Jack
